Papineau

Last checked 2026-11-03

Papineau is the large French-Canadian janitor who says he fights broken toilets and dirty floors. He is free to recruit on Explorer and Survivor. Cursed mode asks for four Cleanerex. His starting level shifts by difficulty.

Bathroom, then a closet key that is not his

If you are walking with fewer than two companions, he is in the ground-floor men’s bathroom. Otherwise he is in the janitor’s room. That switch is the detail people miss when a video says “he’s in the bathroom” and he is not. Level on the sheet is 4, with +1 on Explorer and −1 on Cursed. HP 199, attack 6.

Accept the janitors’ quest when you talk to him. I am not expanding the quest into a room list the page does not give me. The skill names and status effects stay summarized as “janitor kit” until a second page prints each percentage.

Searchers who want “janitor key in the maze” are not looking for Papineau’s pocket. The Janitor Key Ring drops from the Garbage Worm in the basement and opens the janitors’ closets. Papineau is the man. The worm is the key. The Floor 1 labyrinth is a third place, and it does not hold that ring. I will repeat the split because the keyword is confident and wrong.

Misspellings papanu and papainu belong on this page. They are not separate janitors.

Explorer raises his starting level by one. Cursed lowers it by one and adds the Cleanerex cost. Survivor keeps the free recruit. Those three sentences are the difficulty split, and they are not the same as the janitor key ring’s drop.
